Teenz Kulture Festival
Our biggest celebration of student talent and culture. For one full day every Term 3, students take over the school with music, dance, fashion, drama and creative work, and every student has a part to play.
Applications are open for Senior 1, Senior 5 and transfer students.
Term 3
The exact date is shared with students during the term.
More than a school show
Teenz Kulture is the day students show the talent and culture that class time does not always have room for. Every student takes part: performing, organising, working backstage or cheering in the audience.
The performances are prepared by the students themselves. Classes, clubs and individual students get ready through the term and bring it all together on the day. The school main hall is the main stage, and the whole campus joins in.
"Every student has something to show. Teenz Kulture is the day the whole school stops to watch."

What the festival is about
Talent beyond the classroom
Music, dance, fashion, poetry, comedy, drama and cultural performances. A reminder that our students are more than exam candidates.
Culture on show
Students wear cultural dress and perform dances, songs and stories from their home areas. Many parts of Uganda are seen on one campus.
Led by students
Teachers guide and supervise, but classes and clubs choose and rehearse their own items. The prefects help organise the day.
The whole school joins in
Normal lessons stop for the day. Every student and teacher is part of the festival in some way.
How the day runs
- 1OpeningA special assembly opens the festival. The Headteacher welcomes everyone, the year's theme is announced and the student leaders for the day are introduced.
- 2Cultural dressStudents come dressed in cultural wear and their own creative outfits. It is one of the most colourful mornings of the year.
- 3On the main stageClasses and clubs perform in the school main hall through the day: traditional and modern dance, choir, drama, poetry, comedy and live music.
- 4Around the campusOutside the hall, students run stalls and displays of food, art and creative work, with smaller performances on the grounds.
- 5Closing and awardsThe day ends in the hall, where the best performances and the students who worked hardest are recognised.
Who takes part
- Every class: Senior 1 to Senior 6, including Senior 6 students preparing for UACE
- Class items: many performances are prepared by a class together, which builds teamwork
- Clubs: the MDD, Debaters and Writers clubs use the festival as their biggest show of the year
- Solo acts: students who play an instrument, sing, write poetry or have another talent can ask to perform alone
For parents: Teenz Kulture is mainly a day for students and staff, not a visiting day. If parents are invited in a particular year, the school will let you know at the start of Term 3. Email info@jonahs.ac.ug or call +256 788 262 797 to ask.
